BBC Breakfast underwent a significant change during its newest episode. Presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt greeted the nation with current news stories from around the globe this Thursday (June 7).

Rather than being present in the studio as is typical, they were dispersed for an exceptional cause. While Naga was seated on the famed red couch, Charlie reported live from Ver-Sur-Mer, Normandy, France to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Charlie informed viewers: "Let's give you a sense of the events that are coming up for the rest of the day today. Events remembering D-Day will continue. We'll be ending our coverage here on Breakfast a little earlier at 8.30am this morning, thats when our colleagues on BBC One."

He continued, "In terms of the timeline, we know the King and Queen will join veterans for the first-ever national commemoration here at the British Normandy Memorial. The British Memorial here near the village of Ver-Sur-Mer pays tribute to the more than 22,000 service men and women under British command who fell on D-Day in the battle of Normandy in the Summer of 1944."

Earlier this week, Breakfast experienced a presenter shuffle following the death of rugby legend and close friend of the show Rob Burrow after his extended four-and-a-half-year battle with MND.

Devoted viewers tuned in for the first episode of the week on Monday (June 3), expecting to see Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, but BBC chiefs had to make a last-minute call to another presenter to fill in for the presenter.

Sarah Campbell, the weekend host, stepped in for the mother-of-one alongside her colleague Jon.

Despite her absence, the regular presenter shared a heart-wrenching post on Instagram dedicated to the late rugby league legend Rob Burrow.

The sportsman tragically died at the age of 41 after a four-and-a-half-year battle with motor neuron disease on Sunday (June 2).

Sally had worked closely with the rugby player and his family, documenting his health journey since his diagnosis in 2019.

Later in the show, Sally appeared on the famous sofa where her co-stars interviewed her about her relationship with the sports star. She found it hard to hold back tears as she spoke about Rob's love for his young family and his unwavering determination to fight the terminal condition for as long as possible.

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
